Edit an event after publishing

Plans change — the hall moves, the start time shifts, more people want to come. How much of the event you can still change depends on one thing: whether registration has opened yet.

Until the registration start time passes, Edit reopens the whole wizard. All four steps are there and you can change anything — name, description, date, venue, banner, admins, sponsors, limits and categories.

• The final button says Submit rather than View Preview — you are updating, not publishing from scratch.
• When it saves you get “Event updated”, and the event stays published throughout.
• You do not need to publish it again.

Once registration has started, Edit no longer opens the wizard. You get a single screen titled “Edit registration”, with a note at the top:

• You can change: the registration end date, and the registration end time.
• You can see but not change: the event name, and when registration started.
• Everything else — date, venue, price, limits, categories, form — is locked.
• Saving confirms with “Registration end updated”.

This is deliberate rather than a limitation. People have already registered on the basis of what you published; silently moving the venue or the date underneath them would be worse than the inconvenience of not being able to.

If something fundamental has to change after registration opened, your options are to extend or close registration using the two fields you do have, tell attendees in the event channel or a community chat, or cancel the event and publish a corrected one.

Two neighbouring actions live in the same menu and are easy to confuse:

• Cancel event — keeps the event visible but clearly marked as cancelled, so registered attendees understand it is off. Use this for anything people have already signed up to.
• Delete — removes it. Available even for past and cancelled events, for tidying up.
• Clone — copies the whole setup into a new draft, which is the easy way to run the same event again next year.
