Change your community's details

Community details are changed in the web admin portal, not in the app — here is what lives where.

This trips people up regularly, so it is worth stating plainly: you cannot change a community's details from the mobile app. There is no edit screen for a community — you have not missed a menu, it genuinely is not there.

Community details are managed by the owner in the Wapoka community admin web portal, in a browser rather than on your phone. That is also where the richer reporting lives — the app points organisers there for event analytics too.

Sign in with the same Wapoka account you use on your phone. You land on the Dashboard, with a menu down the left-hand side.

  1. 1

In the left menu, open Community Management, then Communities.

  2. 2

Find your community in the list.

  3. 3

Click the pencil (edit) icon on its row. The page heading changes to “Edit Community”.

  4. 4

Work through the steps, then save on the last one.

Editing is laid out as a short series of steps, the same shape as creating a community — but shorter, because the parts that cannot change are hidden.

Step 1 — Basic Details

Community NameRequired
What your community is called.
Community Established DateRequired
When your group was founded.Must be today or earlier.
Country / State / CityRequired
Where your community is based.
Email IDOptional
Contact address for the community.Changing it asks you to confirm a one-time code, exactly as the app does.
Mobile NumberRequired
Contact number, with its country code.
Community Profile PictureOptional
The image members see on your community profile. One JPG or PNG, 16:9, under 10 MB.
Community LogoOptional
Shown to members on invoices. One JPG or PNG, 16:9, under 1 MB — note this limit is smaller than the profile picture's.

Step 2 — About community

About CommunityRequired
What your community is for. This is what people read when deciding whether to join.
Search TagsOptional
Keywords that help people find you.Type a comma to add each one.
Privacy PolicyRequired
How your community handles members' information.
Terms & ConditionsRequired
The rules members agree to.
Do you want to add member subscription plans to your community?Required
Whether your community uses membership plans.
Community CategoryRequired
Public means people can find and join you; Private means invitation only.
Member ApprovalRequired
New members are approved manually by an admin.

If your community is a registered entity there is a third step, Verification, holding your entity legal name, VAT number and registration document. Communities that are not registered entities do not see it.

So that you know where to go for what, here is the split.

  • In the portal — the community's name, description, logo and profile picture, category and privacy setting, its privacy policy and terms, the membership questionnaire, and subscription settings.
  • In the app — the invite link, adding participants, reviewing join requests, viewing community info, reporting a community, leaving it, and deleting it.

One exception worth knowing: the admin sub-group that Wapoka creates for you automatically is more restricted than a normal one. When you edit it, only its picture can be changed.
