What is a community?
The one idea worth understanding before anything else.
A community is the home for your whole group — the sports club, the association, the neighbourhood. Inside it you can create two different kinds of space, and knowing the difference makes everything else fall into place.
Think of it as a building. The community is the building itself. Sub-groups are the rooms, where people talk to each other. Channels are the noticeboards in the hallway, where the committee puts up notices and everyone reads them.
- Community — everyone who belongs to your organisation.
- Sub-group — a smaller space where members talk to each other, like a group chat for one team or topic.
- Channel — a broadcast space where admins post and members read. Ideal for announcements nobody should miss.
On the Communities tab, the three chips at the top match exactly that structure, so you can look at your communities, all your sub-groups, or all your channels.
